Legislation in WA

What WA law actually requires

There is no AED-specific Act in force in WA. Workplaces sit under the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 (WA), which adopted the national model WHS in March 2022 — the last state to do so. WorkSafe WA's Bulletin No. 11 covers AED guidance.

Under WHS duty of care, WA employers need to consider AED provision against the "reasonably practicable" test. Mining sites, remote workplaces, and sites with long ambulance response times typically tip the test toward AED provision.

WA's AED registry runs through St John Ambulance WA's State Defib Network — not GoodSAM. The Lotterywest Heart Grant subsidises AED purchases for eligible community organisations. SafePulse does not provide legal advice. We supply TGA-approved AEDs, install them, handle St John registration, and run six-monthly maintenance.

Six-monthly maintenance

Scheduled servicing keeps every unit operational. Smart installs add 24/7 monitoring — vital for remote and mining sites.

Install packages

Smart by default. Standard if you’d rather.

Both packages include the AED unit, cabinet, signage and SA Ambulance registration. The choice is how much of the ongoing maintenance you want us to handle.

Do WA workplaces legally need an AED?add
There's no AED-specific Act in force in WA. Workplaces sit under WHS duty of care under the WHS Act 2020 (WA). WorkSafe WA Bulletin No. 11 sets out the guidance — many workplaces install AEDs to discharge this duty.
Where do AEDs get registered in WA?add
SafePulse registers installed AEDs with St John WA's State Defib Network — the WA equivalent of GoodSAM.
What's the Lotterywest Heart Grant?add
A subsidy program for AED purchases by eligible community organisations in WA. We can help you check eligibility and apply.
Should mining sites install AEDs?add
Yes — under WHS "reasonably practicable", mining sites' remote locations, long ambulance response times, and workforce size all tip the test toward AED provision. WorkSafe WA Bulletin No. 11 and industry best practice both reinforce this.
